Seattle (i/siˈætəl/) is a West Coast seaport city and the seat of King County. With an estimated 662,400 residents as of 2015, Seattle is the largest city in both the state of Washington and the Pacific Northwest region of North America. In July 2013 it was the fastest-growing major city in the United States, and remained in the top five in May 2015 with an annual growth rate of 2.1%. The Seattle metropolitan area of around 3.6 million inhabitants is the 15th largest metropolitan area in the United States. The city is situated on an isthmus between Puget Sound (an inlet of the Pacific Ocean) and Lake Washington, about 100 miles (160 km) south of the Canada–United States border. A major gateway for trade with Asia, Seattle is the third largest port in North America in terms of container handling as of 2015.
The Seattle area was previously inhabited by Native Americans for at least 4,000 years before the first permanent European settlers.Arthur A. Denny and his group of travelers, subsequently known as the Denny Party, arrived from Illinois via Portland, Oregon on the schooner Exact at Alki Point on November 13, 1851. The settlement was moved to the eastern shore of Elliott Bay and named "Seattle" in 1852, after Chief Si'ahl of the local Duwamish and Suquamish tribes.

Forterra has official partnerships with the cities of Everett, Kent, Kirkland, Redmond, Seattle, and Tacoma in leading stewardship projects at city parks and urban forests. Public volunteers and volunteer Forest Stewards work with cities and Cascade Land Conservancy in implementing 20 year plans to protect urban forests from invasive plants.

Last year Humm Kombucha became the first kombucha brand to be sold at an NFL stadium. In October, Humm was authorized for sale at Seattle’s CenturyLink Field and given the title of the “official kombucha of the Seattle Seahawks.” At the time Humm co-founder Jamie Danek welcomed the challenge of bringing the kombucha category into unchartered territory. “The kombucha market is saturated in the health foods space but that’s not just who we target,” Danek said. “We’re about the masses. We’re about accessibility. So we wanted to put our resources towards getting people to try Humm, which has the palatability to reach the everyday, American consumer.” BevNET caught up with Danek earlier this month at trade conference KombuchaKon, where she discussed Humm’s experience thus far at CenturyLink F...

Join the Matador Network as we explore Seattle from a local’s perspective. To get a sense of what it’s like to live in Seattle, and to see the Emerald City through the eyes of an insider, we tag along for a day in the life of Kirsten Gardner, a local tour guide who takes us on a hike and to a few of her favorit spots in the neighborhood of Ballard. Then, we follow local glass artist Preston Singletary through Pioneer Square, to grab coffee and check out some local public artworks. Finally, we’ll pop in to Green Lake for a visit with Chef Rachel Yang to see what makes Seattle a perfect place to visit with families. Each visit allows us to gain insight into why Seattle is the city with the perfect mix of both urban and the outdoor life.
